The administration of the Greek Coal-Steel industry (Hellenic Halyvourgia) decided to reduce working hours and cut salaries in an effort to counterbalance losses generated by the economic crisis. In October 2011, 36 lay-offs were announced with a view of firing another 180 workers, leading to a solidarity strike that lasted 272 days (ending July 26th, 2012), the longest strike ever recorded in Greek history. / Ελληνική Χαλυβουργία, Βιομηχανική Ζώνη Ασπροπύργου, Αθήνα, Απρίλιος 2012. Η διοίκηση της Ελληνικής Χαλυβουργίας αποφάσισε να μειώσει τις ώρες εργασίας και τους μισθούς των εργατών σ'αυτήν, σε μια προσπάθεια να αντισταθμίσει τις απώλειες που δημιούργησε η οικονομική κρίση. Τον Οκτώβριο του 2011, η ανακοίνωση της βιομηχανίας για 96 απολύσεις, με απώτερο στόχο την απόλυση άλλων 180 εργατών, οδήγησε σε μεγάλη απεργία αλληλεγγύης που κράτησε 272 μέρες, η μεγαλύτερη απεργία που έχει καταγραφεί στην ελληνική ιστορία.
